How it works

Describe it.
Shape it.
Present it.

Tell the studio what you need, or attach a PDF. It writes the slides, the polls and the quizzes together, in order. You change what you like, choose a look, and present it while the room answers on their phones.

For example, a request for five slides for an autumn volunteer kickoff, a poll on which shifts people prefer, a quiz on the safety rules and a word cloud to close comes back as eight items in order: five slides, two polls and a quiz.

02 / In the room

The slide behind you.
The answer in their hand.

Here is a volunteer kickoff, made in the studio and presented live. Scroll through it the way the room sees it.

01 / Slide

Open with a title slide.

People join on their phones while you get set up. Slides show on the big screen and on every phone, so the back row can read them too.

Example: a title slide reading “Autumn volunteer kickoff”, on the big screen and on a phone.

Wait for the room to join. Introduce the three shift leads.

02 / Slide

Explain what changed.

A slide is Markdown: a # for the heading, a - for each point. Give it the Two columns layout and a --- line starts the second column.

Example: a two-column slide, “What changes this season”, with Before and Now side by side.

Swaps still need a day’s notice. Say it twice.

03 / Poll

Ask what they think.

A poll has no right answer and nobody scores. The results fill in on the big screen as people answer on their phones.

Example: the poll “Which shift would you pick?” filling in live: Saturday morning 17, Saturday afternoon 9, Sunday morning 8, Weekday evenings 6.

If Sunday wins again, ask who can cover Saturday afternoons.

04 / Quiz

Check it landed.

A quiz question has a right answer. When you reveal it, everyone sees it on the screen and on their phone, and the leaderboard keeps score.

Example: the quiz “Who do you call first if someone is hurt?” with the choices The front desk, The shift lead, Whoever is nearest, The volunteer coordinator. The shift lead is revealed as correct.

Point at the first-aid poster by the door while the answers come in.

05 / Poll

End on the room’s words.

A word cloud collects a word or two from everyone. The more people give the same one, the bigger it gets.

Example: the word cloud for “How do you feel about the season ahead?”, where “Ready”, “Busy”, “Hopeful” came up most.

Read the biggest three out loud. Thank everyone for coming.

03 / The look

Say how it should look.

Describe it in your own words. The assistant designs it for this deck: colours, fonts, backgrounds, even how quiz answers sit on the slide. These are some of the starting points it works from.

House look: “No preference.”

04 / Slides that fit

Readable from the back row.

Every slide is laid out on the same 16:9 canvas, so it looks the same on the projector and on a phone. After writing, the assistant checks each one. If something runs off the edge, it shortens the slide or splits it in two. It never shrinks the text to make it fit.

Example: one slide with nine points about a first shift, running off the bottom of the slide.

05 / Layouts

Write it in Markdown.
Pick a layout.

The assistant writes every slide as Markdown, so you can open any slide and change a word yourself. The layout does the arranging.

Three more layouts are built around a picture: image left, image right and full-bleed. Ask the assistant for an image and it makes one for the slide.

06 / Present it live

Open the lobby.
Let the room in.

  1. Put the lobby up early.

Your screen shows a link and a QR code. People scan it, sign in with their email and tap Join. The first time, they get a short code by email to type in.

  2. Start when everyone is in.

Once you press Start presentation, nobody new can join, so open the lobby while people are finding their seats.

  3. Move through it at your pace.

Next and Previous move the slides. On a question, you decide when to reveal the answer or the results. Your speaker notes show under the slide on your screen, and nobody else’s.

Example: a lobby for “Autumn volunteer kickoff” with a QR code, and the names of the people who have joined so far.

07 / What it costs

Credits pay for the writing.
The room is free.
